Looking back at the Clue Lifecycle, if a dream is a clue, then there will be confirmation or repetition of something in the dream. Just as with my dream about a business contact (whose name came up rather unexpectedly the next day), the next day, you can look throughout the day for any elements of the dream that appear in waking life and catch your attention.

Honoring the dream is a good first step in learning to recognize clues that come while we are awake. A great way to do this is based on how you might honor the dream—if you dreamed of someone you haven’t seen in a while, you can call or email them. They might tell you something that validates why you had the clue.

A few years ago I had a dream about a friend of mine from MIT who I hadn’t seen in a few years. Getting the “funny feeling” that this dream was some kind of a clue, I decided to email her that day to honor the dream. She got back to me that same day and responded: “I’ve been thinking of calling you—I wrote a business plan and wanted to get your opinion on it, but wasn’t sure if it would be an imposition to ask you to read it for me.” This provided immediate confirmation that the dream had some tie to the real world.
